Creative Dance with Maria Svensson. K.C.C.

Fifth and Sixth Class were treated to 6 weeks of workshops with Maria Svenssonson

They interpreted the creation of the Solar System through movement and music.

Each group represented a planet and each planet dance was unique, expressing its physical characteristics

Maria had a wonderful ability to elicit dance from all the children.

They dressed the part too!

Thank you, Maria. Teachers and children were so inspired!

Thanks to Ms Claire Murphy for organising the workshops.

Dragons’ Den: The Final Decision.

THE WINNERS!A handmade product which should sell well. These are red birch wooden plaques, made to your specification. The company is called ‘WOOD YOU BUY IT?’ Sixth Class are already taking orders!’

Dragons quiz the entrepreneurs.

“What are your projected profit margins?

Science

Which fruits will sink? The big heavy ones, the small ones or has it anything to do with weight?

Surely, the pineapple will sink!

Take a closer look: the melon and other fruits floated because the air packed in the centre around the seeds(melon) acts as a buoy.

Gravity V Air resistance.

We cut squares of plastic and various materials. We measured 25cm x 25cm and 35cm x 35cm.

We knew that lobsided parachutes wouldn't work so we took care with the length of our strings: more measuring and cutting. We used various weight for our brave 'parachuters' : marla and Lego men worked well.

What about these sheets of paper? Crumpled or flat....all A4. We saw some air resistance!. Which one hit the floor first?

We made helicopters from templates. The larger ones flew longer than the smaller ones (clockwise)

We made helicopters from templates. The larger ones flew longer than the smaller ones (clockwise). More surface area=more air resistance!

The longer rotors spin slower than the smaller rotors! And when we bent the rotors the opposite way, both helicopters spun anti clockwise.

Then we added paper clips. This made our helicopters heavier, causing it to spin faster and gravity pulled it to the ground even faster.

Carbon Dioxide

Give it time to prove. The yeast is now 'awake' or activated by warm water and warm temperature. It loves sugar.

Focus on that point straight ahead!

Sometimes we have to calm down and take a quick break….ZEN 🙂

Even dogs have to breathe in and be still. (They are quite good at it!) Bruno could learn a thing or two from Third Class 🙂
