WIN AIDAN O’ MAHONY’S 2016 JERSEY at the FASHION SHOW!

Aidan O’ Mahony has danced his way into the hearts of everyone in Caherleaheen NS. He has donated a signed Jersey to our Fashion Fundraising Event. We know there are probably plenty of hotels and pubs who would gladly bid each other to get this jersey, but we thought the audience would appreciate buying raffle tickets on the night. You can buy them …..(click on ‘Read more’)….You can buy them just before the show, from Mr Paul, Roland, David, Eddie and Chris Rogers (at the GAA table) and during the interval……Thank you, Aidan!

Children practicing their walk for the big night.

Seamus Harty attracted crowds within minutes of picking up the guitar. We will hear more of his amazing singing tomorrow night at the Fashion Show!

Bigger and bigger….

Plenty of posers here can’t wait to get on the catwalk!

Our First Holy Communicants🌈

God Bless Second Class! Frs Piotr and Dan co-celebrated a lovely mass, while singers and musicians from Sixth enhanced the ceremony. We were all very impressed by the respectful behaviour, the readings, prayers and the warm atmosphere. Everyone went back to the school for refreshments, delicious food, a chat and photographs.THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Meeting friends in the school hall.

Super Sweepers!

Thanks are due to the Sixth Class parents and children who arrived on Saturday morning, during the holidays, armed with yard brushes and a steely determination. They swept all the grit, dirt and residue which had accumulated after the building had been power-washed. Your help is truly appreciated. It’s great to start T.3 with the yard and school looking clean and tidy.Let’s keep it that way!

The joys!

‘This is easier than housework!’

‘Give me a 5k any day!’

‘I’ve done my good deed for the day ‘ 🙂

Is it time for a cuppa, yet?

Brush Buddies 🙂

Last Week of Term 2. We wish you all a happy Easter.

It was a busy week. Our hurlers and soccer players played in two Blitzes. They won some, lost some and drew some. Well done! Chicks hatched in First Class. Easter art and crafts filled our walls and tables. Fathers Dan, Piotr and Seamus attended to our Sacrament of Reconciliation ceremony. The Basketball WARRIORS paid us a visit, causing wild cheers in the yard. Finally, CRAZY HAIR DAY arrived. Click ‘Read more’ to see pics.

Some of our Junior Infants.

Senior Infants.

Teachers joined in too (any excuse!).

Mr Paul didn’t win any prizes. I wonder why?

by

We gave Omniplex vouchers, AquaDome vouchers and lots of Easter eggs as prizes.

These three won the ‘Best Crazy Hair Family’ prize. Wonderful nests on their heads….

This creation is a great way of drying clothes. Can you see clothes pegs?

Mr Liam received his egg because he brought REAL eggs, that hatched, into our school.

Garvey’s Tralee Basketball WARRIORS received a great welcome on Wednesday.

Can you see Kieran Donaghy in the crowd?

They told us ‘to always love your team mates, to stick together and play FOR each other’.

Ms Mary steals away unnoticed, with the Cup!

Three proud Tralee sisters🏀

Soccer: Mini -7’s. Wearing their new jerseys with pride.

On Wednesday our hurlers played against four local schools. (Those jerseys are getting out alot!).

Rang a Trí colured beautiful designs on their Easter eggs

Rang a Ceathair needed more space for their art work.

Sixth Class are a bit ‘cracked’.

They have far too much ‘free range’.

These chicks made in Third Class are really cute. I believe they have all gone to good loving homes!

And all our real chicks have gone to a good loving farm.

Spring has sprung some chicks!

They are adorable! We all got to rub their soft fluffy down. It was a long wait for ‘Joey’. Chick 2 arrived two days later, at ‘sos beag’. The teachers were more excited than we were, nearly!. Ms Mary calls Chick 2 ‘Goldie’. But Ms Noelle says it’s a democratic decision. We will call her ‘Tiny’. We can’t wait for tomorrow.

Hello Joey!

Joey is waiting for the others to hatch…..

Here’s ‘Tiny’, exhausted after battling her eggshell.

Joey meets ‘Tiny’…

Six chicks, by Friday! We are thrilled. What a lovely surprise, on our last day before Easter hols.

All of First Class are invited to pop in this Sunday to count the chicks and say ‘Goodbye’ before the go to their new home. School doors will be open between 11.30 and 12noon. Siblings and parents welcome too!

Our eggs have hatched!

The excitement is unbelievable! Shrieks of delight and the most uplifting sound of chirping filled our corridor. First Class are taking excellent care of our new Easter Chicks!Click on First C blog🐣

Hello Joey!

Joey is waiting for the others to hatch…..

From here to Africa…..

Joan Rogers sent our used football and soccer jerseys to children in Africa. It is a wonderful way to connect with children who have less than us but love soccer as much as we do. Thank you to all the children in Caherleaheen who donated their jerseys.

Our Easter Chicks.

Mr Liam gave us an incubator filled with eggs. They ‘are due’ this week!!! What will we do, if they hatch during the hols?. We gently turn them every day two times. Ms Noelle thinks the names we are thinking of for our Easter Chicks are perfect. But we haven’t fully decided yet, until EACH ONE hatches…..

No omelettes in our classroom!

Gently does it….

Our Book Launch!

We are so proud! It was wonderful that all our parents found the time this morning to celebrate our published books and to have a cup of tea, served by Ms Anne Moore and Ms Noreen. They even got to taste some of our teacher’s banana cake……a recipe which is a secret! This was the first day that we actually got to hold our printed books. It was soooo exciting as we counted 3, 2, 1 before we opened our envelopes. Ms Mary was amazed by both the quality of our stories and the quality of illustrations and layout in our books. Thank you Ms Ann. Thank you Mums, Dads and Nans……We will read them again tonight and tomorrow night and for many nights to come.

Ms Ann presents each of us with our books.

Thank you!

Nearly time to open them!

3,2,1……

Wow!

Satisfaction!

‘Keep going…..we are listening’.

So chuffed, we bought 2 copies!

Even my little sister came. She LOVES books.

Our parents are really impressed.

My Nan came too. She is a great listener.

Three of us were lucky because our names were pulled out of a hat and therefore we got to read our books to the whole audience. Ms Annn showed each page on our interactive whiteboard.

‘Should I take a bow?’

Everyone read the last page of each book out loud. That felt really good. And the audience gave a cheer!

This story was about two characters Poppy and Snow. Snow wondered should they eat her pet ‘Fishy’? You will have to buy the book to find out!

Wonderful illustrations.

Imaginative settings.

Reading a book together makes the whole experience even better.

Great characters.

Finally, we were all given a gift of a little book from Polymath!

And ultimately, the best surprise for one special author, was the arrival of her mum, who rushed all the way from Cork to hear her favourite daughter read her new book!

And Ms Geraldine, on her birthday, enjoyed this private reading too!. Happy Bday Geraldine. WELL DONE, EVERYONE!📓[/caption]

Third Class Book Launch!

All our parents attended the official launch of our books, which Ms Ann published for us through Story Bird. Each one of us got to see the final product for the first time today! We worked for many weeks creating, writing, typing and editing our stories. Our parents were thrilled with our beautifully illustrated glossy books. We read our stories to our parents. Click on the Third Class blog to read and see more….

Let’s Paint……

What a beautiful day to paint a fence. Fifth class came well-prepared. They wore old clothes and some brought brushes. Ms Mary bought the paint and brushes. Mr Liam and Ms Gemma helped too. This was a really enjoyable activity, while some of Fifth Class were away at a soccer blitz.

Luckily it wasn’t too windy.

Pink ‘Painthers’

Lets sit back and admire our work!

We had to paint around the sides…..gloss paint can be messy.

It’s good to chat too…

Spring Clean Success: Cash for Clobber.

Tara, Marie, Maura, Mums , Dads, teachers, children, neighbours and friends all helped with a big Spring Clean! A very satisfying activity at home, but an intriguing maths activity at school. Everyone tried to estimate how much we would make from this fund raiser. 1kg = 50c…… 10kg=€5.00…..100kg= €50.00 But what was the average weight of each bag…..and how many bags were stacked in the hall? 1140kg was hoisted into the Clobber Lorry and therefore €570 for Caherleaheen N.S. Fantastic!

Waiting patiently for the Clobber Man…..

Triceps and a great attitude. Can do…. will do!

Easy peasy…..A 7kg bag.

Effortless, efficient and always helping with a smile.

Triceps fading now, but smiling regardless!

Loading the Clobber Truck…

Thank you, Parents and helpers. Job well done! €570. Wow!

We ‘bagged’ €800 at our recent BAG PACKING in DUNNES STORES!!! Thank you to all the public who helped fill our buckets. DUNNES were very kind to us too.

Some bag packers.

More engineering and creativity from Sixth and Fifth Class.

In an effort to fulfil our Green Flag commitments, the children embraced the challenge of making models of bikes, at home, from recycled materials…..Please check out the blogs for Fifth Class and our Green Flag. 🚲If only we could have given an Easter Egg to all our designers/engineers…….

Kathlyn Murphy used a pliers diligently and patiently, to create a bike made of wire.

Grace McLoughlin used CDs and the saddle on her bike looks comfy and…….sweet!

Keelin O’ Mahony created a bike which is mechanically and structurally correct, yet also oozing in Parisian style and charm. All it’s missing is une baguette in the carrier basket. Fantastique!

Well, she may have forgotten to buy la baguette dans la boulangerie, but at least she remembered to bring home the Irish Times. Parfait!

Transport is our Green Flag Theme.

Click below and on Fifth and Sixth Class blogs to see the incredible models of bikes made from recycled materials…..

Raymond Lowe got a HUGE cheer from his classmates when he won First Prize. Fifth Class are a really nice bunch of people! Well done Raymond…..Love the handle bars!

Children’s Choice Award: DINGLE ANIMATION FESTIVAL

We were honoured to to be chosen as sole judges for the Dingle Animation Film Festival! First and Second Classes judged 13 short animations from the very best animators in the industry, both nationally and internationally renowned. Each child marked each film from 1 to 5 marks, 5 being the ultimate score. Sixth Class tallied the scores. Our very own acclaimed animator from Fifth Class gave his personal and expert view point. Mr Paul will attend the Award Ceremony next weekend and present the Children’s Choice Award to the winner.

If you go down to the woods today………

Thanks are due again to our parents for dropping and collecting Third Class. Ms Ann, the ‘Bramble Club’ and Coillte led the children to our planting spot. One tree for each child. Gillian Wharton and Joan co-ordinated the whole event. It was a wonderful activity for all.

The P Team.

Put down our bags.

The ‘Bulldozer Team’ clears the plot.

And we know what the ‘Digger Team’ had to do!

National Tree Week.

The Bramble Club linked up with Coillte and Third Class to plant thirty trees in Ballyseedy Woods. Gillian Wharton led the ‘Bramblers’ and Ciaran Nugent of Coillte led the planting. Thank you so much! The children will keep an eye on their ‘tree nursery’ for years to come.Great work, in less than an hour.More photos on Third Class ‘blog’…..

Ciaran Nugent of Coillte led the activity.

Our New Football Jerseys (officially).

Lovely to see our school crest on our new jerseys. Many thanks due to our sponsor Paul Fitzgibbon of Fitzgibbon Interiors, who called in on Friday to make sure that they fit and that our footballers are up to the challenges and training ahead! Mr Paul has full faith and no fears. “Go néirí an bothar libh!”.

Parents, don’t look now……

Are you brave enough to look at these photos of our gymnasts? Our kids are FEARLESS! So too are Shona White and Steven Donovan, our I.T.Tralee students who taught our children how to balance and trust gravity (and each other!). A wonderful and well organised series of lessons……thank you Shona and Steven.

Rang a Dó ag ‘pleidhcaíocht’.

Third Class got to grips with the ‘human pyramid’.

This looks easier than it actually is! Ask Fourth Class.

Ta-dah!

Don’t let go…..

Fifth Class face the challenge, bravely

And of course, Sixth Class are just showing off, as usual!

Lots of Reading and Engineering for Sixth Class.

Sixth Class were involved in everything this week! They gladly read books to our younger pupils on World Book Day. On Friday they participated in an Engineering Workshop with Mr Jones. This was hosted by Kerry Library for Engineering Week 2017. Many thanks to all the organisers. Ms Gillian’s class really enjoyed the demonstration and the marshmallow challenge.

When you share a book, you can chat about the story, the characters and the storyline. This enhance’s a child’s enjoyment of reading. It deepens understanding and comprehension too.

World Book Day also helped forge new friendships.

A future Patrick Collison, perhaps? ( His Doppleganger!)

I think we can, I think we can, I think we can…..

I knew we could!
