Spar FAI Munster Final.Tues. 8th

Six counties battled it out today. Caherleaheen represented Kerry and certainly did the county and our school proud. We won one game(Waterford) but lost two (Cork and Tipp). Cork were a class team and took the title. They will represent Munster at the Aviva Stadium. We wish them the best of luck! Many thanks to our 8 soccer stars: Seán Moynihan, Bobby Byrne, Darragh Cunnane, Cathal Murphy, Ryan McMahon, Jesse O’Reilly, Ben Callinan and Seán-Óg Brosnan. Mr Paul and Damien are immensely proud of our 8 players as are all the supporters who turned up today and roared them on. It was a lovely sunny, blustery day and the FAI organisers should be proud- it was a fabulous display of soccer skills from the six counties, especially Caherleaheen, Co Kerry!👍👍

💒 Second Class celebrated their First Holy Communion 💒

Fr Piotr and Fr Dan celebrated our First Holy Communion mass. It was a truly lovely ceremony. Ms Gillian had everyone well prepared and ready for their special sacrament. The mass was enhanced by Third and Sixth Class choir, along with musicians and singers. They sang and played beautifully. The children knew all their prayers and responses. We have to thank parents for helping and participating all year in their preparation. We were very proud of them all today. Everyone headed back to the school hall which was brimming with delicious savouries and desserts. It looked (and tasted!) fantastic when we arrived. Sincere thanks to parents of First Class and the P.Assoc. Natalie Maher took family photos, giving lots of her time to each family and taking great care of every photo shoot. Eventually, everyone headed home with their respective families. We hope you all had a lovely weekend!Remember that children can wear their communion dresses and suits on Monday.

Caherleaheen Clean Up

🏆Caherleaheen are Kerry FAI Primary Schools CHAMPIONS!🏆

We are immensely proud of all our Fifth and Sixth class soccer players, subs and supporters. Our talented players won 7 games and drew 2 games, taking the Kerry 5’s Gold medals with a 4:2 Final score. They played teams from all over the county during the last two weeks, having trained with Mr Paul and Damien since January. This is a huge achievement.Today, 11 supporters cheered them, non-stop from 10am to 1.40. They really carried the team forward! Meanwhile, prayers and good wishes from everyone at school propelled them over the line. SPAR treated them to well-deserved pizzas, which were dutifully shared on their return, with all their classmates. Paul and Damien stood them chips. The cheers when they returned to school, exhausted, were deafening and heart-felt. Comhgáirdeas daoibh go léir. Imreoirí sacair iontach iad!

Visitors to Caherleaheen.

Rose of Tralee, Jennifer Byrne, stole the show. What a lovely lady! She interacted so well with the infants. They believed she was a ‘real live princess’. There was lots of touching and rubbing of her ‘magic dress’ and they wanted to know was her tiara ‘real’. The arrival of the Clobber truck was a less glamorous affair, but proved to be a lot more valuable than Sheila’s tiara!Click Read More

Many hands made light work….Thank you to all of Sixth Class.

FAI schools 5-a-side soccer competition.

Wow! What a day we had at the FAI 5-a-side competition on Tuesday in the Park F.C. grounds. Caherleaheen had 2 teams taking part and for the first time ever we reached the county finals which will take place next Wednesday!! It was a superb day for all the children participating, with each team getting to play a full 5 games each! It was very blustery but that didn’t deter our budding soccer stars and both teams really did the school proud – both on and off the pitch. A huge well done to all the children, we are all looking forward to taking part in next week’s county finals.

Confirmation Day. Thursday 22nd March. 2018

Congratulations to Sixth Class! We are very proud of how they prepared for this special sacrament. Bishop Ray Browne confirmed the children and we hope they are filled with the Holy Spirit and a renewed sense of their role in the Christian Family! Thanks to photographer Denis Walsh for forwarding this lovely photo.

Engineering Fun and a geology tour to Crag Cave….

Pupils in First and Fifth really enjoyed and were challenged by engineering activities. First Class built the tallest buildings….in the World: The Burj Caherleaheen! Fifth class dropped eggs without cracking any shell….they used pneumatic platforms and other clever landing structures. Celebrating the World of Books

We love books and many of the children have favourite books, with characters which draw them deep into another world. Our senior readers in Fourth and Second, paired up with juniors and infants to read to them and all of them enjoyed this ‘paired reading’ activity. It’s the perfect way for parents to end the day at home, too: Share a book together at bedtime. Click ‘Read More’. We encourage all parents to visit the library often with their young readers.

‘What’s going to happen next?’

Springing into February.

We continued our daily 10am class exercises and 8.45am assembly-line moves with a spring in our step. Dry weather also gave us the opportunity to get out and about, looking at new buds and daffodils. Art work reflected the new season and everyone was busy. Tag rugby, football and hurling coaching continues. Ms Gemma and Paul supervised the Basketball blitz in Mitchell’s. Well done to all the boys from Fifth and Sixth. Brave teachers embraced the kitchen on Shrove Tuesday! Children enjoyed lots of batter-whisking, pan-cake tossing and finger-licking. Valentine’s Day fell on Ash Wednesday. Thanks to Dr Dan for calling in and blessing us with the ashes. Aistear will be moving to Junior Infants soon. It is very popular with the infant children.

Grandparents’ Day- Simply the Best!

Our Grandparents and parents arrived in their droves;some had travelled from other counties. The excitement was palpable and barely containable as we filled the hall, yet ALL the children made us so proud. A mass St Blaise blessing of our throats, by Fr Poitr and hundreds of St Brigid Crosses reminded us of how blessed we all are!Click ‘Read More’ for pics. The songs and prayers were very well received, as were the teas and scones baked by Third Class. I really want to thank Sixth Class for welcoming our VIPs so warmly, the Fifth Class group who cleaned and dried the red chairs during their breaks, our LS teachers for serving ( and adorning) so many scones and teas, Fr Poitr for welcoming our Polish visitors and all, Noreen, Caroline and Carol (our hardworking parents), SNAs for magically clearing and restoring equipment in hall, the kids for their wonderful art and poems, the teachers for their motivation and ‘can do’ attitude, Ms Claire for pulling it all together and again…. the kids! ‘Wonder’ : Great book!

We shared 40 copies of the book ‘Wonder’ and nearly all of Fifth and Sixth Class have read it by now, just in time for the film release. So we are heading to the Omniplex next Thursday. 3.55pm-6.10pm. CAN’T WAIT!

We bought 40copies on the recommendation of a few children in the senior Classes. 10/10. It is both a funny and emotionally challenging book. It can be very sad in parts. Omniplex:€6 per child

Last Day of November.

We prayed for the Holy Souls yesterday. Fr Dan led the service and prayers with Ranganna 2,3,4,5,6. They filled little Memory Boxes with names of their loved ones. May they rest in peace.

Science Week : All Classes Engaged and Firing!

We all explored and engaged with this national science initiative. There are no boundaries in science. It embraces forces, materials, living things, engineering, measurement, recording and the whole world around us! It invites us all to question, predict and try out experiments. It’s always fun and engaging. It’s life!! ‘Read More’. Just click↙️

No thanks!

How do Ms Ann’s First Class keep so many ping pong balls in the air?

Second Class Pride!!

The very brave ventured into Ms Brid’s room. Exploring with taste and touch was a little bit scary, but exciting too. Can anyone really trust Ms Brid?

Ermmm…..is it edible?

“I am not peeping…..I am sniffing!”

Third Class will never be short of options if they find themselves stranded at sea (in a yacht!) with no fresh water. They heated salty ‘sea’ water….

Then heated it more…..evaporation accelerated.

….until drops of fresh water condensed and dropped gently into a little glass. Each group tasted their fresh water to be sure. Yes, no salty taste at all!Rain tastes nice 💧

Where do I begin???

No explosions here, just water rising up inside the jar as the candle ‘s flame uses up all the oxygen. The water rushes in to balance the pressure. This experiment epitomises Sixth class management….. Mr Paul rushing in to class every morning. Keeping the pressure within and without, equal and balanced.

Book Worms in the Library

We enjoyed reading in the library today for Children’s Book Week.So many books, so little time .

We are learning about idioms too such as –
One for the books .

Never judge a book by it’s cover.

An open book.

Take a leaf out of someone’s book.

Read between the lines.

The oldest trick in the book.

We love reading.

The Fourth Class Vikings

Fourth Class really enjoyed their trip to the Library for Children’s Book Week. We learned lots of interesting facts about The Vikings. We dressed like Vikings, went into battle, drank out of Viking horns , held spears and shields and lots lots more. Many thanks to all the parents who dropped and collected and to the staff of Tralee Library.

This is not going according to plan

The battle begins. Who will win ?
